Guatemala - Finca El Ritiro del Quisaya
from £7.00
Guatemala's coffee history began in the 18th century, introduced by Jesuits to Antigua's monasteries. Post-independence in 1821, European colonists dominated estates. The 1952 Agrarian Reform Law redistributed land, impacting production amid a 36-year civil war. Despite setbacks, Guatemala is now a significant coffee producer. Finca El Retiro del Quisaya, established a century ago by the Ortega family and recently acquired by Arabigos del Sur, near Jilotepeque in the Chimaltenango region, stands out. The farm's name originates from a river within its land.
